Industrial Axial Fans in Jordan
Jordan’s industry rests on phosphate and potash mining, cement, chemicals, and manufacturing, in a country with two unusually different altitude settings. The Dead Sea potash works sit far below sea level, where air is denser than anywhere else our customers operate, while Amman and the highlands sit several hundred metres above it. Add scarce water, which favours dry cooling, and a fan specification for Jordan needs a genuine site-by-site density calculation.
Below Sea Level and Up in the Highlands
At the Dead Sea, roughly 430 m below sea level, atmospheric pressure is about 106.6 kPa, around 5% above the sea-level value. In a 42 °C summer, dry-air density there is about 1.18 kg/m³, near the standard 1.204. On a cool winter morning at 15 °C it rises to about 1.29 kg/m³, roughly 7% above standard. Amman sits at about 780 m, where a 38 °C day gives a density of about 1.03 kg/m³, or 86% of standard.
This range matters for motors. Fan power scales with air density, so a fan sized for hot summer conditions but started on a cold, dense morning absorbs more power. Size the motor for the coldest, densest condition the fan will see.
Example. A processing building gains 500 kW of sensible heat, with an allowed rise of 8 K.
| Site | Density | Airflow needed | vs standard-air calculation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dead Sea, 42 °C | 1.178 kg/m³ | 52.7 m³/s (189,900 m³/h) | +2% |
| Amman, 38 °C | 1.033 kg/m³ | 60.1 m³/s (216,500 m³/h) | +17% |
Either duty exceeds one fan in our range and is naturally split across two fans. See how to size an axial fan and fan laws and air density.
Phosphate and Potash
Mining and mineral processing plants need ventilation for crushers, screening and drying buildings, workshops, and control rooms. Phosphate and potash dust is fine and, with moisture and salts, can be corrosive as well as abrasive. Dust unbalances impellers, and salts attack coatings and motors. Choose materials, coatings, and motor protection for the environment, and plan cleaning and vibration monitoring. See surface mines, quarries and mineral processing, corrosion-resistant axial fans, and axial fan vibration, balancing and maintenance.
Dust capture at crushers and dryers uses fabric filters with centrifugal fans, which are outside our range.
Water Scarcity and Dry Cooling
Jordan is among the most water-scarce countries, so dry cooling, using air-cooled heat exchangers and coolers instead of evaporative towers, is attractive. Dry coolers rely on axial fans and lose capacity in hot air, so size for the design ambient. A 1,500 kW cooler with a 12 K air rise at 40 °C needs about 397,000 m³/h, typically a bank of three fans, each within our range. Layout matters, since hot air recirculation reduces capacity. See cooling towers and heat exchangers.
Cement and Chemicals
Cement plants and chemical works need building ventilation, electrical room supply, and equipment cooling, with hazardous-area duty where flammable materials are handled, which needs a specialist ATEX supplier. See cement plants, chemical and petrochemical plants, and ATEX and spark-resistant axial fans.
Summer Heat in the Jordan Valley
The Jordan Valley and Dead Sea region are among the hottest places in the country. Check that motors, coatings, and controls are rated for the ambient, and consider shading and ventilation of electrical equipment. See high-temperature axial fans.
Salt and Corrosion Around the Dead Sea
The potash industry lives on brine, and the air around evaporation ponds carries salt and moisture that attack steel, coatings, and electrical equipment far faster than ordinary desert air. Fans in these areas benefit from durable coating systems, stainless or otherwise protected fasteners, sealed motors with a high ingress protection rating, and casings that drain. Check for galvanic problems where different metals meet, and wash salt deposits off regularly, because they keep corroding while they hold moisture. Inspect coatings at every shutdown and repair damage early, before the underlying steel is exposed.
Serviceability and Commissioning
Sites in the Jordan Valley and the desert are far from suppliers, so choose standard components, keep critical spares on site, and write a maintenance routine that site staff can follow. At commissioning, measure airflow against the fan curve, record baseline vibration and motor current for every fan, and confirm rotation and speed. Check the operating point at the worst-case resistance, for example with loaded filters, and stay clear of the stall region. A baseline recorded on day one is the most useful maintenance tool a plant can have, because every later change can be compared with it. See how to read an axial fan curve.
Energy and Control
Jordan’s electricity is costly, so fan energy over a plant’s life far exceeds the purchase price. Speed control and staged fans follow the load, and because power varies with the cube of speed, running at reduced flow saves a great deal. Compare fans on a common efficiency basis, at the duty point and at part load. See adjustable pitch versus VFD control.
Where Our Range Fits
NextAir Systems manufactures axial fans with impeller diameters up to 1,600 mm, static pressure up to 2,400 Pa, and air volume up to 185,000 m³/h. That covers building ventilation, equipment cooling, and dry-cooler fan banks in Jordanian industry. Dust-extraction fans, kiln draught fans, and large cooling fans are outside our range. ATEX-certified and AMCA 99 spark-resistant fans are not currently part of our range.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air really denser at the Dead Sea?
Yes. At about 430 m below sea level, atmospheric pressure is around 5% above sea level, and cool mornings push density about 7% above standard.
Why does that matter for motors?
Fan power scales with air density, so size the motor for the coldest, densest condition.
Why is dry cooling attractive in Jordan?
Water is scarce, and air-cooled equipment avoids evaporative water use, though it loses capacity in hot air.
Can axial fans capture phosphate or potash dust?
No. Dust capture needs dedicated extraction with fabric filters and centrifugal fans. Axial fans ventilate buildings and cool equipment.
How many fans does a processing building need?
It depends on heat load and density. 500 kW with an 8 K rise needs about 190,000 m³/h at the Dead Sea and 217,000 m³/h in Amman, typically two fans.
