Industrial Axial Fans in the UAE

The UAE’s industrial fan demand is shaped by its cities as much as its factories. Steel and aluminium production, busy ports and logistics zones, dense high-rise districts with large underground car parks, and a network of tunnels and metro systems all need ventilation, and all of it sits in a hot, humid, salt-laden coastal climate. That combination makes construction and specification details, such as corrosion resistance, smoke duty, and density correction, as important as airflow.

Coastal Heat and Air Density

Summer air in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the coast reaches 45 °C at sea level. At 45 °C, air density is about 1.11 kg/m³, or 92% of standard, so a fan at a given speed develops about 92% of its rated pressure, and a duty of 500 Pa at standard density comes out at about 461 Pa. Humidity is high as well, though dry-air density is the correct basis for a first calculation.

Example. A logistics hall gains 500 kW of sensible heat, with an allowed rise of 8 K. Using 1.109 kg/m³, the airflow needed is 500 ÷ (1.109 × 1.006 × 8) = 56.0 m³/s, or about 201,700 m³/h, about 9% more than a standard-air calculation gives. That is two fans of about 100,800 m³/h each, both inside our range. See how to size an axial fan.

Car Parks, Metros, and Tunnels

The UAE’s dense urban development means very large enclosed car parks and extensive tunnel and metro ventilation. These installations serve two duties: daily ventilation, ideally controlled by gas sensors and speed control for energy, and smoke control in a fire, which is governed by certified temperature and duration classes such as F300-120 and F400-120. Our page on tunnels, metros and car parks explains how the two duties differ. Smoke-rated certification and jet-fan or reversible designs are confirmed case by case before you specify them.

Steel, Aluminium, and Heavy Industry

Steel and aluminium plants and foundries need heat removal and dilution ventilation, and electrical rooms need filtered, cooled air. The guidance in our pages on steel plants and foundries and metal casting applies. Furnace fume extraction and dedusting fans are centrifugal and outside our range.

Coastal Corrosion

Salt-laden humid air corrodes exposed steel, damages coatings, and settles as deposits that hold moisture. Coastal installations benefit from higher-durability coating systems, protected fasteners, sealed motors, and drained casings. See corrosion-resistant axial fans. The same environment challenges rooftop coolers and cooling towers, covered in our page on cooling towers and heat exchangers.

Ports and Logistics

Free zones and ports have very large warehouses and workshops with heavy heat loads and frequent door openings. Roof and wall extraction, with adequate make-up air and backdraught shutters, is standard. See factory and industrial ventilation.

Noise in Dense Urban Sites

Plants and car park exhausts near residential and commercial districts often carry noise limits. Larger fans running slower and attenuation reduce noise, and silencer resistance must be included in the system curve. See axial fan noise.

Energy Efficiency

Cooling and ventilation loads vary with the weather and occupancy, and electricity is a major operating cost. Speed control and staged fans deliver large savings, since power varies with the cube of speed. See adjustable pitch versus VFD control and fan efficiency and EU Regulation 2024/1834, which many consultants use as a reference.

Proving Performance at Handover

Car parks, tunnels, and plant buildings in the UAE are usually tested in stages before handover, and fans are central to that. Measure airflow against the curve, confirm rotation and speed, verify that gas sensors trigger the correct ventilation stages, and test smoke mode with the fans running at their emergency duty. Check that the operating point is clear of stall at the highest resistance the system can reach, for example with filters loaded or dampers partly closed. Record baseline vibration and motor current for every fan so later changes stand out. A system that has been proved at handover is far easier to maintain, and far easier to defend if performance is questioned later. See how to read an axial fan curve.

Balancing Daily Energy and Emergency Reliability

The same fan often has to run efficiently for years at part load and then work flawlessly for a few hours in a fire. The two goals pull in different directions. A variable-speed drive saves energy every day but adds a component that must not prevent emergency operation, so many designs provide a bypass or an emergency full-speed mode. Motors, cables, and controls that must work in a fire need suitable ratings. Test the emergency mode as part of routine maintenance, not only at handover, because a smoke system that has never been run at full duty is an assumption. See high-temperature axial fans.

Where Our Range Fits

NextAir Systems manufactures axial fans with impeller diameters up to 1,600 mm, static pressure up to 2,400 Pa, and air volume up to 185,000 m³/h. That covers ventilation, heat removal, and cooling duties across UAE industry, logistics, and building services. Duties beyond that range, such as large cooling-tower fans, are outside what we build.

What to Specify

  1. Design ambient temperature and coastal exposure.
  2. Heat load and allowed rise, or air changes.
  3. For car parks and tunnels: daily airflow and smoke class and duration.
  4. Coating system and motor protection for coastal duty.
  5. Noise limits at the boundary.
  6. Fans, redundancy, and control approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does UAE heat affect fan selection?

At 45 °C and sea level, air density is about 92% of standard, so fans develop about 92% of rated pressure at the same speed and ventilation airflow must be recalculated.

Do you supply smoke-rated fans for car parks and tunnels?

Smoke-rated certification and jet-fan designs are confirmed case by case. Tell us the required class and duration and we will confirm what we can supply.

Do coastal sites need special coatings?

Usually yes. Salt air corrodes standard finishes, so specify a durable coating system, protected fasteners, and sealed motors.

How do I control car park fan energy?

Use gas-sensor-based control with speed control, since power falls roughly with the cube of speed.

Do you cover Dubai separately?

Dubai is covered on this page, since conditions and requirements across the emirates are similar for fan selection.
