How to Choose a Centrifugal Blower Manufacturer: Range, Limits and What to Verify

NextAir Systems, Faridabad, India. Last reviewed October 2026.

The most useful sentence a blower manufacturer can say is “we don’t build that”. It saves you a month, and it tells you the rest of what they say can be trusted. A manufacturer’s limits are as informative as their range, so we start there.

The checks below apply to any centrifugal blower manufacturer. Our figures are for our own range: up to 800 HP and up to 500 mm WC static pressure, built to your duty and not picked from a catalogue.

At a glance

  • Our standard maximum is 500 mm WC (about 4.9 kPa) static pressure and 800 HP (about 597 kW), and the two are separate limits, not one duty point.
  • Some duties are not part of what we build: pressures above 500 mm WC, radial-blade material-handling duty, very large process fans above 800 HP, and ATEX or spark-resistant blowers.
  • High-temperature blowers are built for furnaces up to 800 °C, kilns up to 650 °C and ovens up to 500 °C, with materials, bearing cooling and speed limit engineered for the duty.
  • Impellers are balanced on our own computerised dynamic balancing machines, and motors and drives are bought-out items matched to each blower.

Check 1: does your duty sit inside their range?

Start by converting your duty into the same units as the manufacturer’s range. Pressure is quoted in mm WC, Pa, kPa and inches of water gauge, and mixing them is how mistakes enter an enquiry. The table converts the values relevant to our range.

mm WCPakPainches WG
504900.492.0
1009810.983.9
2502,4522.459.8
3813,7363.7415.0
5004,9034.9019.7
355634,87234.87140.0

Our 500 mm WC maximum covers the low, medium and high pressure classes completely and the first part of the very high class (381 to 3,556 mm WC). It does not cover pneumatic conveying at the upper end of that class. The classes are set out in blower pressure classes.

Check 2: are power and pressure checked together?

The maximum airflow is not stated as a single figure, because it depends on how the power and pressure limits combine. As an indication, 800 HP (597 kW) at 75% total efficiency and the full 4.9 kPa corresponds to roughly 91.3 m³/s, or about 328,758 m³/h, on the shaft power alone. Real airflow is confirmed for each selection. Ask a supplier to show shaft power from airflow, pressure and efficiency, and compare it with the motor, as in reading a blower datasheet.

Check 3: what do they not build?

Ask directly. A manufacturer with a clear list will give you one. Ours, for blowers, is: pressures above 500 mm WC, radial-blade material-handling duty, very large process fans above 800 HP, and ATEX or spark-resistant blowers. If you need one of those, we would rather say so at the start. A supplier who accepts every enquiry is either very broad or not looking closely.

Check 4: wheel and inlet type

We build backward-curved and forward-curved wheels, chosen for the application, flow and pressure, in single-inlet and double-inlet designs. The wheel decides efficiency and stability, so ask why the proposed type suits your duty. Our guides compare backward-curved and forward-curved wheels and explain how to read the operating point on a curve.

Check 5: high temperature

At high temperature the materials, bearing cooling and speed limit are engineered for the duty. Ask the manufacturer for the maximum gas temperature, the wheel material, how the bearings are cooled and what the start-up procedure is. Our range covers furnaces up to 800 °C, kilns up to 650 °C and ovens up to 500 °C, with density corrections as explained in gas composition and density. See also our page on high-temperature blowers.

Check 6: balancing, motors and drives

Balancing matters more for blowers than for most equipment, because impeller unbalance shows up as vibration, bearing wear and noise, and it gets worse with speed and size. Ask where the impellers are balanced and to what grade. Motors and variable frequency drives are bought-out items matched to each blower. At the top of the range the motor and the starting method become a major electrical decision, covered in motors, drives and starting, and the efficiency class is worth asking about, as in IE3 and IE4 for blower drives.

Check 7: compare quotations like for like

Put every quotation on the same basis before you rank it: airflow condition, pressure and efficiency definition, scope and test standard. The method is in comparing blower quotations, and the reason energy dominates the cost is in the true cost of a blower.

Checks 8 to 10: factory, lead time and terms

  • Factory. Our 30,000 sq ft facility has 10-ton EOT cranes, a hydraulic press brake, motorised roller machines and balancing machines. Ask any supplier for the equivalent list.
  • Lead time. Our minimum is 30 days, longer for large or custom blowers.
  • Export. Our blowers reach customers worldwide, mainly across the Middle East and Africa, and we also supply facilities in India.
  • Terms. Warranty, spares and the Incoterm, in writing.

What to send us for a quotation

  • Airflow, with the gas condition: actual or normal, temperature, and altitude
  • Static or total pressure in mm WC or Pa, and the system resistance at clean and worst-case conditions
  • Gas composition, moisture and dust loading
  • Maximum and normal gas temperature
  • Duty hours and control method: fixed speed, VFD or damper
  • Voltage and frequency, and the drive arrangement you prefer

Send these to us through our contact page and we will confirm whether the duty is inside our range, and select the blower if it is. Start with our guide to centrifugal blowers or see the full range. We build for cement plants, steel plants and power generation, and our notes on Saudi Arabia cover local conditions. A blower is often paired with a VOC adsorber or an odor control adsorber.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a centrifugal blower manufacturer?

Check that your duty sits inside their range, ask what they do not build, and verify wheel and inlet type, high-temperature capability, balancing and the motor and drive arrangement. Then compare quotations on one basis.

What is the maximum size of blower you build?

Up to 800 HP (about 597 kW) and up to 500 mm WC (about 4.9 kPa) static pressure.

Do you build ATEX or spark-resistant blowers?

No. ATEX and spark-resistant blowers are outside what we build, along with pressures above 500 mm WC and radial-blade material-handling duty.

What temperatures can your blowers handle?

Furnaces up to 800 °C, kilns up to 650 °C and ovens up to 500 °C, with the materials, bearing cooling and speed limit engineered for the duty.

Are motors made in your factory?

No. Motors and variable frequency drives are bought-out items selected and matched to each blower.
