Industrial Centrifugal Blowers in Mumbai
Mumbai and its surrounding industrial belt hold some of India’s densest concentrations of chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and engineering plants, alongside one of the country’s biggest ports, making it one of the more demanding markets for blower selection anywhere we operate. It is a place of tight industrial estates, coastal salt air, and a monsoon that regularly floods streets and low-lying areas. This page covers how corrosion, hazardous areas, and cramped, noise-sensitive sites shape blower selection here, alongside the range of combustion, cooling, and process-air applications found across Mumbai’s industry.
Coastal Heat and Air Density
Mumbai sits at sea level, with hot-season air around 35 °C. Dry-air density is about 1.15 kg/m³, roughly 95% of standard, and humidity is high throughout much of the year.
Example. A production duty needs 350 mm WC actual pressure. At 95% of standard density, the equivalent standard-air rating is 350 × 1.204 ÷ 1.146 ≈ 368 mm WC. See gas temperature, altitude and density correction.
Chemicals and Petrochemicals
The chemical belt around Mumbai combines corrosive fumes, humid salt air, and hazardous areas. Blowers in classified zones need a specialist ATEX supplier, since we do not currently manufacture that equipment, and non-classified process cooling, ventilation, and drying remain within our range. Tell us the zone, gas group, and where the blower sits relative to it, and we will confirm what we can supply. See chemical and fertiliser plants and combustible dust and hazardous atmospheres.
Pharmaceuticals and Clean Manufacturing
Pharmaceutical and fine-chemical plants have clean areas, solvent handling, and strict validation. General ventilation and plant-room blowers support them, but clean-room air handling and containment systems are separate, and solvent-handling areas may be classified as hazardous, which changes the equipment permitted there. Choose blowers that are easy to clean and confirm whether the duty is really general ventilation or part of a validated system.
Corrosion From Salt and Monsoon
Salt-laden air and months of monsoon humidity corrode standard finishes quickly, and combined with acid or solvent fumes in chemical plants, the environment can be severe. Choose materials against the actual chemicals and coastal exposure, use protected fasteners and sealed motors with a suitable ingress protection rating, and consider a motor positioned outside the airstream where fumes pass through the blower directly. See fume extraction and scrubber systems.
Monsoon Flooding
Mumbai’s monsoon can flood industrial estates. Locate motors and electrical equipment above likely water levels where possible, and protect drains. After flooding, inspect blowers and motors before restarting, checking for water in motors and bearings, debris, and loosened fixings.
Tight Estates and Noise
Many Mumbai industrial units are compact, close to their neighbours, and near residential housing, which limits both the physical footprint and the noise a blower installation can have. Centrifugal blowers are compact for the pressure they develop, and single-inlet designs suit particularly tight arrangements. Noise limits often apply at the boundary, so position blowers so discharge does not blow into neighbouring properties, and use larger wheels at lower speed to reduce noise and energy together, since the two goals usually point in the same direction. See blower noise and silencers.
Port, Warehousing, and Logistics
The port and its logistics parks have large, hot, salt-exposed buildings. Roof and wall extraction with adequate make-up air and durable coatings suits them. See ventilation and exhaust.
Automotive and Engineering Manufacturing
Mumbai’s automotive and general engineering manufacturing sector needs paint-shop and process ventilation, cooling, and general air handling, with classified solvent areas in paint shops needing a specialist ATEX supplier. Non-classified assembly and finishing areas remain within our range. See factory and industrial ventilation.
Cooling
Cooling systems and process skids serve chemical and manufacturing plants, and humid coastal conditions affect the design of any duty that handles wet gas. State the design ambient for both temperature and humidity when specifying. See cooling air.
Commissioning and Documentation
Plants in Mumbai’s chemical and pharmaceutical sectors work under demanding documentation and audit regimes, and blowers are part of the record. Ask for performance curves based on tests to a recognised standard, and, for hazardous areas, the marking and documentation that show equipment suits its zone. See blower performance testing.
Where Our Range Fits
NextAir Systems manufactures centrifugal blowers up to 800 HP (about 597 kW) and up to 500 mm WC (about 4.9 kPa) static pressure, with backward-curved and forward-curved wheels and single-inlet and double-inlet designs. That covers combustion air, cooling, drying, and process-air duties for Mumbai’s chemical, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industry, in non-classified areas.
What to Specify
- Design ambient temperature, humidity, and salt exposure.
- Hazardous-area zone, gas group, and where the blower sits relative to it.
- Chemicals present and the material required.
- Noise limit at the boundary.
- Flood exposure and motor location.
Ports and Free Zone Logistics
Mumbai’s port and adjoining free-zone logistics facilities have large, hot, salt-exposed warehouses that need roof and wall extraction with adequate make-up air, and equipment cooling, corrected for the coastal heat and humidity typical of the region. See factory and industrial ventilation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Mumbai chemical plants need special blowers?
Often yes. Corrosive fumes need suitable materials, and hazardous areas need a specialist ATEX supplier, since we do not currently manufacture that equipment.
Can you supply blowers for hazardous zones?
Not currently. Tell us the zone, gas group, and where the blower sits relative to it, and we will confirm what we can supply.
How does the monsoon affect blowers?
Humidity and salt corrode finishes and put moisture into motors, so use durable coatings, sealed motors, and drained casings, and inspect after floods.
Can blowers serve validated pharmaceutical systems?
General ventilation and plant blowers can, but clean-room air handling is separate, so confirm whether the duty is part of a validated system.
Are centrifugal blowers suitable for Mumbai's tight industrial estates?
Yes, they are compact for the pressure they develop, and single-inlet designs suit particularly constrained sites.
