Industrial Centrifugal Blowers in Jordan
Jordan’s industry rests on phosphate and potash mining, cement, chemicals, and manufacturing, in a country with two unusually different altitude settings. The Dead Sea potash works sit far below sea level, where air is denser than almost anywhere else we serve, while Amman and the highlands sit several hundred metres above it. This page covers how that range of density affects blower selection, alongside the ordinary combustion, drying, and dust-collection duties found across Jordanian industry, from the potash works on the shore of the Dead Sea to cement and chemical plants in the highlands.
Below Sea Level and Up in the Highlands
At the Dead Sea, roughly 430 m below sea level, atmospheric pressure is about 106.6 kPa, above the sea-level value, and in a 42 °C summer, dry-air density there is about 1.18 kg/m³, close to standard. On a cool winter morning the same site can see density rise even higher, since lower temperature further increases density. Amman sits at about 780 m, where a 38 °C day gives a density of about 1.03 kg/m³, about 86% of standard, and a cold winter morning there pushes density higher still, changing the motor’s peak power draw across the year.
Example. A process duty needs 350 mm WC actual pressure. At the Dead Sea, the equivalent standard-air rating is about 358 mm WC. In Amman, the same duty needs about 408 mm WC. The difference between the two sites, within one country, is significant enough to change which blower model fits. See gas temperature, altitude and density correction.
Phosphate and Potash
Mining and mineral processing plants need combustion air for drying kilns, dust collection at crushers and screening buildings, and cooling for processing equipment. Phosphate and potash dust is fine and, with moisture and salts, can be corrosive as well as abrasive. See mining and mineral processing and dust collection system design.
Cement and Chemicals
Cement plants need kiln-area combustion air, air-slide conveying, and dust collection, following the patterns common to cement plants everywhere, with the kiln draught fan itself, which is much larger and often hotter than our range covers, outside what we build. Chemical works need process air, drying, and scrubber duties, with hazardous-area zones needing a specialist ATEX supplier, since we do not currently manufacture that equipment. See cement plants and chemical and fertiliser plants.
Water Scarcity and Dry Process Cooling
Jordan is among the most water-scarce countries, so dry, air-based cooling is attractive compared with evaporative alternatives, using cooling air blowers on process skids instead of water-intensive cooling towers where the process allows it. See cooling air.
Summer Heat in the Jordan Valley
The Jordan Valley and Dead Sea region are among the hottest places in the country. Check that motors, coatings, and controls are rated for the ambient, and consider shading and ventilation of electrical equipment near these hot processes. See high-temperature centrifugal blowers where the duty involves hot gas directly.
Salt and Corrosion Around the Dead Sea
The potash industry lives on brine, and the air around evaporation ponds carries salt and moisture that attack steel, coatings, and electrical equipment faster than ordinary desert air. Blowers in these areas benefit from durable coating systems, protected fasteners, and sealed motors with a suitable ingress protection rating.
Serviceability and Commissioning
Sites in the Jordan Valley and the desert are far from suppliers, so choose standard components, keep critical spares on site, and write a maintenance routine that site staff can follow. At commissioning, measure airflow against the blower curve, record baseline vibration and motor current, and confirm the operating point at worst-case resistance. See maintaining industrial blowers.
Powder Conveying for Potash and Cement
Fine potash and cement powder is often conveyed on air slides or by short dilute-phase pneumatic conveying, both low-pressure duties well suited to centrifugal blowers, provided distances stay modest and loading stays light. Longer or denser conveying moves into positive-displacement territory. See low-pressure pneumatic conveying and air slides.
Documentation for Mining and Chemical Projects
Jordan’s phosphate, potash, and chemical projects often run under formal engineering documentation requirements similar to those found across the wider region. Agree early on the performance basis, including the pressure basis, air density, and tolerance, and ask for material certificates suited to the corrosive, saline environment around evaporation ponds and processing plants. See blower performance testing.
Where Our Range Fits
NextAir Systems manufactures centrifugal blowers up to 800 HP (about 597 kW) and up to 500 mm WC (about 4.9 kPa) static pressure, with backward-curved and forward-curved wheels, single-inlet and double-inlet designs, and high-temperature blowers for furnaces up to 800 °C, kilns up to 650 °C, and ovens up to 500 °C. That covers combustion air, drying, cooling, and dust collection across Jordanian industry, whether at the Dead Sea or in the highlands.
What to Specify

- Duty: combustion air, drying, cooling, or dust collection.
- Dust, salt, and corrosive conditions.
- Hazardous-area classification, if any.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is air really denser at the Dead Sea?
Yes. At about 430 m below sea level, atmospheric pressure is around 5% above sea level, which makes the air noticeably denser than in Amman at the same temperature.
How much does altitude matter between Jordan's sites?
A great deal. A 350 mm WC duty needs a blower rated at about 358 mm WC at the Dead Sea but about 408 mm WC in Amman, a meaningful difference within one country.
Why is dry cooling attractive in Jordan?
Water is scarce, and air-based cooling avoids evaporative water use, though it loses capacity in hot air compared with wet cooling towers.
Can your blowers handle phosphate or potash processing dust?
Yes, on the clean side of a filter, with materials and coatings chosen for the corrosive, salty environment.
Do you supply blowers for Jordan's chemical plant hazardous areas?
Not currently. Classified zones need a specialist ATEX supplier.
